The copypasta concept is as follows:

A girl and a boy fall in love. Unable to admit it, he receives the girl’s phone number via a deus ex machina. He phones her right away, not caring about the weird area code, and is ecstatic to hear that she also has a crush on him. The girl just gives him a confused look when he tells her about the confessions from the day before.

He discovers after doing some research that the girl he called is not the same one he fell in love with. She does not actually exist in this universe whatsoever. She is the girl’s counterpart in the parallel universe, and she has developed feelings for the MC’s AU self, who is also blissfully oblivious to her infatuation.

A scheme is hatched by the two to divulge their deepest, personal secrets to one another, providing the other with the means to defeat the other’s heart. This leads to a series of antics. Drama develops when the two start to fall in love with each other instead of their respective loved ones and start to doubt the concept of love.

It has been submitted in threads titled Write an Anime Plot on 4chan’s /a/ board. The artist and 4chan tripcode user Hataki !WBLg6PTzh provided the first archived mention of Keit-ai back in 2011. Several anons and he attempted, but were unable, to bring Keit-ai real.

A few months later, on March 31, 2016 the day before April Fools’ Day an another YouTube user going by the name of Gabriel De Angeles posted a fictitious version of the first episode of Keit-ai.

As of September 2016, it had received over 20,000 views. The anime sources from which these parody Keit-Ai YouTube videos obtain their clips are largely advertisements produced by Makoto Shinkai and/or CoMix Wave Films including the 2015 PSA commercial Mottainai by AC Japan and NHK.
